The IITC Touch2 runs on Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional Operating System (OS), has a 3.2 megapixel camera and comes with the TouchFlo user interface (UI). It has a 2.8-inch TFT LCD screen on the front panel. Below the touch screen is a zoom bar followed by a row of five keys namely call. home. Windows, back and call end lock power. The back panel has a 3.2-mcgapixel camera but that's pretty much it. The left spine has a volume rocker and a microSD card slot covered with a flap. On the right bottom lies the slot for the stylus. The top sports a 3.5 mm jack, which is a welcome addition and the bottom panel has a USB-cum-charger slot.

Opening New Windows

The HTC Touch2 runs on the latest Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional OS. We won't be writing much about it as we have reviewed WM 6.5 separately for you. The device comes with the famous TouchFlo UI, which lets users access almost all the features with a single tap. The bottom row has easy access to fea¬tures like home, messages, E-mails, people (contacts), browser, etc. When users select one tab, its contents get displayed on the screen. It also has an option of adding favou¬rite features to the programme tab where one can add up to 18 features. Owing to the new OS, the boring drop down Windows menu has been replaced with a new and improved menu with large icons and better functional¬ity. The phone comes with applications like Windows Marketplace, Microsoft My Phone, Facebook and Opera Mobile browser. Text input options include a full QWERTY virtual keypad and a compact QWERTY Thus the phone does not have handwriting recognition.

Delivering Data

The HTC Touch2 comes with data centric apps and apart from GPRS one can also use Wi-Fi to browse the Internet. Setting up a Wi-Fi connection is easy and it works in the offline mode as well. The browser comes with YouTube bookmark and YouTube videos run in landscape mode. The Opera browser makes Internet surfing a pleasure. The zoom bar also comes handy while browsing. Apart from Wi-Fi, the HTC Touch2 comes with a built-in GPS receiver and Google Maps. But no navigation application is preloaded on it.

The HTC Touch2 supports all major E-mail clients, POP3 and IMAP4 accounts along with Microsoft Exchange. The device comes pre-loaded with Quick Office, allowing users to open and create MS Office docu¬ments. The PDF Reader allows users to view PDF files.

Multimedia Master

The HTC Touch2 comes with a 3.2-megapixcl camera, media player and FM radio. Speaking about the camera, the highest picture resolu¬tion is 2048x1536 pixels. Apart from that users can set the picture quality as basic, normal, fine and super fine. We were also able to customise the image properties (contrast, saturation and sharpness) of the pictures and add various colour effects like Greyscale, Sepia and negative. The image quality is decent but absence of flash is a drawback. We also missed a physical shutter release key. The Touch2 shoots videos in normal and MMS modes. The highest image resolution is GIF (352 x 288). Videos 'can be captured in MPEG4 or H.263 formats. The phone comes with a Windows Media Player and FM radio. One can store up to 20 radio channels presets and users can access six favourites from the homescreen of the radio feature. The sound quality of the phone is decent on the headphones and acceptable through the loudspeaker. The battery backup of the phone is decent. A full charge lasts through the day with continuous E-mailing, a couple of hours of making and receiving calls, half an hour of streaming media over Wi-Fi and an hour of gaming.
